I hate citicards

August 19th, 2010 at 04:02 pm

Today I realized that Citi canceled my VISA and opened a MasterCard instead. I was a little annoyed by that to say the least, but after some searching online I realized that it's partly my fault for not reading all my Citi mail thoroughly. Apparently they sent me an opt-out notice a month ago.

I hate opt-out things. What's the point of opt-out anyway except for to scam you into doing something you don't want to do. Why can't banks just use opt-in instead.

Eh, they don't use opt-in because not as many would do so. Credit cards companies have been doing the Visa/Mastercard type switch for years. It happens.

I so agree. That opt-out stuff and all those privacy notice things are supposed to be for our benefit are a sham and should be not be legal.

I think that they bank on the fact that most people ignore their mail, and that leads them to do pretty much as they please. These companies are ignoring the opt-in option because of what creditcardfree said. They want insurance that they can maximize their profits and keep things as smooth as possible for themselves.
